Four access categories defined

Visa-Free. Passport holders enter the destination without a visa application or stamp fee. A valid passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation may be requested at immigration.

1. China — expansion of 240-hour visa-free transit (effective 17 Dec 2024, still valid May 2026). Ports of entry expanded from 39 to 60 locations including land borders. Indonesian passport holders may transit up to 10 days without a visa as long as onward tickets to a third country are booked. Region deep-dives

ASEAN

Ten ASEAN countries provide visa-free or short e-visa access to Indonesian passport holders. The longest duration is in Thailand (60 days since Jul 2024) and Vietnam (30 days since Aug 2023). Exception: Myanmar requires a USD 50 e-visa with restricted land routes due to security situation. Timor-Leste — though non-ASEAN — is treated as regional access with 30-day visa-free.

Middle East

Saudi Arabia opened tourist eVisa outside Umrah/Hajj as of 2019 and continues to expand it; SAR 535 for 1-year multi-entry. Umrah visa remains issued separately via official PPIU or the Nusuk platform by Saudi Ministry of Hajj (see SkyIndoFly guide on zamzam baggage 12 airlines). UAE provides free 30-day VOA. Qatar 30-day visa-free. Türkiye 30-day visa-free multi-entry.

Other Asia

K-ETA Korea mandatory pre-arrival with KRW 10,000 fee and 24-hour approval. Japan eVisa pilot opened to Indonesia as of March 2025. Taiwan visa-exempt 14 days if holding valid ARC or US/UK/JP/SG/KR visa — relevant for Taiwan migrant workers (see Taiwan ARC expiring guide). India e-Tourist visa USD 25–80 for 60-day double-entry.

Europe

Non-Schengen European access includes Türkiye, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo, Belarus, Ukraine (conditional), plus the Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan). The Schengen Area and the United Kingdom remain visa-required for Indonesian passports. Georgia stands out with a 365-day duration — one of the longest globally.

Americas

Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador grant visa-free access with 30–183 day durations. The United States and Canada still require a B1/B2 visa or visa-attached eTA. Caribbean: Haiti and SVG visa-free; most others are visa-required.

Africa and Oceania

Mauritius extended visa-free access from 30 to 60 days in 2023. Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Gambia grant 90 days visa-free. Passport validity: the 6-month rule

Nearly every country in the matrix above requires a Republic of Indonesia passport to be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of arrival. Exceptions with lighter requirements: Hong Kong (1 month), Macau (30 days), Singapore (passport must be valid for the duration of stay). Passport renewal is done via Imigrasi RI at the nearest kantor imigrasi or via the M-Paspor application; estimated 4–7 working days for a regular passport, 1 working day for an express passport (additional fee Rp 1,000,000). How to apply for an e-visa: five generic steps

Application steps for destinations requiring pre-arrival authorisation (K-ETA, Japan eVisa, India e-Tourist, Australia ETA, Kenya ETA):

1. Verify the official site. Access the destination’s MOFA or immigration domain directly (e.g., evisa.go.kr, evisa.mofa.go.jp, indianvisaonline.gov.in, eta.immi.homeaffairs.gov.au, etakenya.go.ke). Avoid third-party agents charging markup.
2. Prepare digital documents. RI passport (data page) in JPG/PDF under 2MB; recent passport photo with white background; flight itinerary and hotel booking; credit card for visa fee payment.
3. Fill the application form. Identity data matching the passport; first accommodation address in the destination; sponsor if applicable; travel history of the last 10 years for some countries.
4. Pay the visa fee. Visa/Mastercard credit card mandatory on most portals. IDR–USD/EUR conversion follows issuer bank rates. For higher fees (Saudi SAR 535, Australia AUD 20, New Zealand NZD 17 + IVL 100), use the SkyIndoFly currency converter.

The tourist eVisa (SAR 535, 90 days) can be used for Umrah per Saudi 2024 policy, but the official Umrah visa is still recommended for full access to Mecca and Medina during peak season.

Is the Australia ETA the same as a visa?

The Australia ETA (Electronic Travel Authority subclass 601) is an electronic pre-arrival authorisation that functions like a short-term visa.
